Seventh Graders Go Back in Time

On April 23, 2010, 176 seventh grade students attended the field trip to the Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale. We also had about 15 parents volunteer as chaperons. Both students and parents got a first hand glimpse of what it was supposed to be like in Renaissance England. We saw jousting, swordfights, and many renaissance crafts being produced. The students were also able to participate in games and rides from the Renaissance period. They made things like paper, butter, leather crafts, and head garlands. The most popular rides seemed to be the dragon swing and the fools maze. The most popular food was the turkey legs.

Several students asked relevant questions related to the Renaissance both during and after the field trip, so I think they learned a lot. Some even commented that they had a lot of fun. It is rare for 7th graders to admit that they enjoyed an educational experience. I believe this was a great experience for our students and parents. Thanks to all that made this possible.
