Bruin Partners started in 1990 serving the students at Stoner Elementary, but since 2000 has worked exclusively at Marina del Rey Middle School in hopes of promoting higher education and personal growth. Bruin Partners individually pairs these students one-on-one with a U.C.L.A. volunteer who aims to assist them throughout their junior high careers. Each pair meets after school once a week, Monday through Thursday, for two hours. These visits consist of one hour of tutoring and homework help to assist the student academically, and one hour of a planned activity to help develop the relationship between mentors and mentees. Additionally, throughout the year Bruin Partners hosts a number of fieldtrips to allow mentors and mentees time together outside of the classroom, to expose students to new experiences and to encourage them to explore, learn, and pursue their interests. If you are interested in enrolling your child in Bruin Partners, you may find more information in the main or counseling office at Marina del Rey Middle School, contact our site liaison Mr. Kastenbaum to obtain an application, or even e-mail us directly at firstname.lastname@example.org.
