I am a Mexican American whose family is from the beautiful Zacatecas, Mexico. My father came to the United States at the age of 14. He attended Marina Del Rey Middle School and has been a gardener ever since he crossed over. My mother is a Special Education Instructional Aide who works for Culver City Unified School District. I have one sister who attended and graduated USC and earned her Masters in Business Administration in Madrid, Spain. I take great pride in my family and their hard work.

I grew up and still live within the neighborhood. I attended and graduated: St. Gerard Majella (way before it became ICEF) for elementary and middle school, Notre Dame Academy for high school, and California State University Long Beach for college. In all of my schools I obtained honor awards and always graduated wearing gold honor chords over my gown. At St. Gerard’s I was top of the class and named Valedictorian. And, although I was not ranked highest of the class at Notre Dame, I still graduated with first honors. Afterwards I commuted to and from Long Beach for 5 years.

For 5 years I dedicated myself to my studies and graduated Cum Laude (with honors). I majored in Liberal Studies/Arts (to be a teacher) and have specializations in Bilingual Education and Math: BCLAD Multiple Subject credential with a Subject Matter Authorization in Mathematics. I continued my studies and obtained a Masters in Teaching with a TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certification from USC. I also hold Single Subject Credential in Foundational Mathematics and am fluent in reading, writing, and speaking in Spanish.

I started at Marina Fall 2007 and have stuck around. I love working here and work hard to help my students succeed not only in Math, but also in life. I hope to stick around for years to come as I feel Marina is my home away from home. I know these kids, their stories, and relate to their experiences everyday. It is a pleasure to be a part of this community.
